Founded in 1934, the University of São Paulo (USP) is Brazil’s largest and one of its most prestigious public universities. Maintained by the State of São Paulo through the Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation, USP has earned an international reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and innovation.

The Department of Economics at the University of São Paulo (USP) currently enrolls approximately 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students, who benefit from the comprehensive academic infrastructure of one of Latin America’s leading universities. The student body is highly qualified, having been selected through Brazil’s highly competitive FUVEST undergraduate entrance examination and the ANPEC national graduate admissions process.

The Department’s faculty is equally distinguished, comprising more than sixty Ph.D. economists, many of whom received their academic training at leading universities abroad. Faculty members are dedicated to excellence in teaching, advancing economic knowledge, and producing research with significant academic and societal impact.

As a result of the outstanding quality of both its faculty and students, the Department of Economics consistently ranks among the top economics programs in Brazil. Its graduate program received the highest possible rating (7 out of 7) in the most recent evaluation conducted by CAPES, Brazil’s federal agency responsible for the assessment of graduate education.

Admission to the undergraduate economics program is highly competitive, with a large number of applicants competing for a limited number of places each year through the FUVEST examination. The Department attracts talented students not only from across Brazil but also from abroad.

The Department’s mission is to advance knowledge in Economics while educating professionals capable of analyzing economic issues from a broad and integrated perspective and acting according to the highest ethical standards. Accordingly, its undergraduate curriculum emphasizes economics as a discipline embedded in the broader relationships among individuals, institutions, and society. At the graduate level, the Department is committed to excellence in research and to the education of scholars and professionals who will contribute to Brazil’s economic and social development.

The Institute of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of São Paulo is dedicated to teaching, research and innovation, and extension in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs supported by a highly qualified faculty and student body.

Its research activities span central areas such as bioinformatics, neuromathematics, and mathematics education. In addition to its academic activities, the Institute promotes outreach initiatives aimed at the external community.

These initiatives include professional development courses, workshops for public school teachers, and mathematics and computing courses during the academic recess period. The Institute also provides statistical consulting and free software support to researchers, companies, and public institutions.

Furthermore, it organizes exhibitions of mathematical objects to disseminate mathematical concepts and enrich the learning experience of students and the general community.

The undergraduate and graduate programs in Economics at the University of Brasília (UnB) provide a rigorous, critical, and pluralistic education, closely connected to the major challenges facing Brazil and the world. Located in the nation’s capital, our programs benefit from their proximity to ministries, government agencies, international organizations, and the private sector, bridging economic theory and practice while preparing economists to assume leadership roles in the private sector, government, multilateral organizations, academia, and the third sector.

Offering undergraduate studies as well as academic and professional master’s and doctoral programs, the Department of Economics brings together a faculty with strong research productivity and extensive experience in public policy, alongside active participation in national and international academic networks. As a result, the Department has established itself as one of Brazil’s leading centers for research, teaching, and policy-oriented analysis in Economics.

ECONOMICS AND POLITICS RESEARCH GROUP – EPRG

The Economics and Politics Research Group (EPRG) was founded in 2013 at the University of Brasília (UnB) as a joint initiative of researchers affiliated with three research centers—the Center for Research on Market Regulation (CERME), the Center for Research on Economics and Finance (CIEF), and the Research Laboratory for Political Behavior, Institutions and Public Policy (LAPCIPP)—and the Master’s Program in Public Sector Economics (MESP).

Since then, the EPRG has grown into a broad interdisciplinary research network, bringing together more than 30 researchers from Brazil and abroad working in Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Law, and related fields.

The EPRG promotes collaborative research, publishes the EPRG Working Paper Series, organizes an annual national conference on Economics and Politics, co-organizes the annual Latin American Workshop in Law and Economics (LAWLE), and maintains a Visiting Researcher Program. Its weekly seminar series, currently organized jointly with the Department of Economics at the University of Brasília, serves as an open forum for the presentation and discussion of ongoing research by scholars from Brazil and abroad.

The EPRG is officially registered as a research group with the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).

Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas – FIPE

The Foundation for Economic Research (Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas – FIPE) is a private, non-profit institution established in 1973 to support research, education, and the dissemination of economic knowledge. Closely affiliated with the Department of Economics of the School of Economics, Business and Accounting at the University of São Paulo (FEA-USP), FIPE has become one of Brazil’s leading centers for applied economic research, professional education, and the development of economic and financial indicators.
